On the edge of the medieval village of Saint Pons de Mauchiens, in the Hérault, this large holiday home with private pool is set in a charming enclosed garden, just 14 km from the Bassin de Thau and 30 km from the sea, between Pézénas and Saint Pargoire, surrounded by vineyards. It has a large south-east facing terrace. The large patio doors lead from the living room directly into the countryside. One of the bedrooms faces the garden. Enjoy sunbathing in the garden in the shallow shade of the fruit trees and pines, or under one of the many parasols. Total sun worshippers will also get their money's worth, as there are sunbathing areas everywhere.
The location of this holiday home is exceptional, as there are 3 classified UNESCO sites within a radius of 30 km. These include the Canal du Midi, a jewel of river tourism linking the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. You can also visit the round lock of Agde, built from volcanic rock and unique in the world. This is where the watercourses of the Hérault and the Canalet , which comes from the Atlantic, meet. The many works of art that line the Canal du Midi are also a delight. Other sites include the Cévennes, a magnificent natural landscape and the hiking trails to St Jacques de Compostela.
In the midst of this magnificent landscape, you must make a detour to St Guilhem-le-Désert, which is around 40 minutes away. Other beautiful excursions are possible: Saint-Pons-de-Mauchiens, in the heart of the garrigue and vineyards, offers a magnificent panorama of the countryside, the mountains of the Monts de lEspinouse, the foothills of the Larzac and, on clear days, a view of the Pyrenees.
The Etang de Thau, 17 minutes away, is one of the largest ponds in Occitania. It is separated from the sea by a thin strip of sand and the Mont St Clair peninsula in Sète towers above it. Over 400 plant and 100 animal species can be found here.
