Holiday apartment in a medieval fort with a medieval flair and an open fireplace
The house is located within the walls of a medieval fort with a castle ruin, Castello di Baida, which was rebuilt in 1300 after being an Arabic settlement in ancient times, called Bayd. Still today, a marble slab hangs over the entrance to the interior courtyard as a reminder of the visit of King Ferdinand of the Bourbons in 1801.
It is a rustic country house, restored and renovated, furnished simply but comfortably, providing everything required for a pleasant holiday. The stone walls about 60-70cm thick keep the house pleasantly cool in summer, and warm in winter. On the ground floor there is a spacious living room with a fireplace, leather suite and a double sofa bed. There are also a bathroom with a shower cubicle and bidet, and a large kitchen-diner with a tiled kitchen unit and decorated with traditional ceramics. From the kitchen-diner, stone stairs lead up to the first floor, where you can find the main sleeping area. There are two bedrooms, one with a double bed, the second either with a double bed, a bunk bed, or a bunk bed and supplementary third bed, depending on requirements. There is also a second bathroom with a shower. The whole living area of the house measures around 110m². Appliances and facilities include: pots and pans, crockery and cutlery, bedlinen, hand and bath towels, a television, fan, fireplace, hairdryer, washing machine, iron and ironing board, fridge with freezer, toaster.
In front of the entrance door, within the fortress walls of the castle, there is an area with a table, chairs and a bench. Behind the house there is a veranda with a fantastic view of the valley and the adjoining garden of around 1000m².
Outside there is a barbecue corner.
Nowadays, the fort is inhabited by artists and people close to nature, attracted by the charm of this structure and the soothing tranquillity of the location. However, it is primarily used as holiday accommodation and for spending pleasant, quiet weekends. The house is located in the countryside in the quiet surroundings of Castello di Baida, near Scopello. It is only 4.4km as the crow flies to the beautiful beach of Guidaloca, and just 4.6km to the Faraglioni di Scopello. Five kilometres away as the crow flies there is the Zingaro nature reserve with its beautiful beaches, where the water is crystal clear and the nature is unspoilt. In the immediate vicinity of the accommodation (50m) there is a dairy, where you can buy fresh milk, ricotta that is still warm and fresh cheese in the mornings, and in the houses all around you can buy homemade canned food and other local natural produce (olive, olive oil, fresh bread, dried tomatoes, to name but a few) privately. A three-minute drive away there is a restaurant/pizzeria, while the little village of Balata di Baida is five minutes away, with a bar, restaurant and post office. The Guidaloca beach and a supermarket are also just a five-minute drive away. It takes about seven minutes to get to the little village of Scopello with shops, pizzerias and restaurants, while the Zingaro nature reserve is ten minutes away.
