The island has a typical Mediterranean climate.
Sicily has a rich and unique culture, especially with regard to the arts, music, literature, cuisine, architecture and language.

Catania
Acireale rises on the edge of a lava plateau on the southeast slopes of Mt. Etna, overlooking the Ionian Sea. It offers a place enchanted by the blue of the sea, by the dark colour of the lava stone and by the green of citrus groves.
The history of Acireale sinks its roots in the myth of the unlucky love of Aci and Galatea. The shepherd Aci loves the nymph Galatea, daughter of the Billow who, bewitched by the sound of his flute, emerges from the sea to listen the sweet call.
One day the Cyclops Polyphemus he too madly in love with the nymph Galatea, seeing the two lovers tenderly together, induced by his jealousy pulled out of Etna an enormous stone and flung it at the shepherd. The harmony of the flute of Aci kept silent forever, but Galatea depressed, prayed the Gods to make her love return in life.
The long weeping of Galatea was transformed in a river where the body of Aci dissolved and he, flowing forever, found peace among the arms of Galatea, who was attending him in the blue Ionian sea where the two lovers melted in an endless embrace The myth permeates the places and makes them more suggestive. The giant Polifemo is Mt. Etna overwhelmed with rage that destroys with the lava the beautiful countries personified in Aci while Galatea is the representation of the fascination of the Sea.
