Massenturismus Fehlanzeige.”

This is how holiday rental owners described Cessapalombo

Cessapalombo. The name derives from the union of two names: "caesa", "silva caesa" and "dogfish", ie forest, forest Palombo, where the name is a very common name in the area.
There is also another hypothesis about the origin of the name, which is what gave rise to the symbol and ...

that is that the name derived from the fact that in the forests of the municipal sostassero and there they were many dogfish.
On the historical origins, there are no reliable sources, it is still found in the area stood a town as early as the third century BC, and later in Roman times: the remains of the "city" on the mountain Castro. Castle Cessapalombo built at a later date and completely destroyed in 1799 by an earthquake there is no news, there remains only the perimeter (walls).
This contrasts with the history of the castle of Montalto and villages that lie at his feet. It rises in the early 1000 A.D. 1500 and follows the fortunes of the Varano Di Camerino becoming a defensive stronghold on the borders of the territory. The castle, now in ruins, has three distinct boundary walls and inside still has the water tank and other caves. The three villages of Villa, Valley and Tribbio are more recent. Only in the village of Villa there is no trace of buildings and frescoes dating back to the mid 1400s. This village was founded as a refuge core of the Lombards and develops being en route to the monastery-hermitage of the Grotta dei Frati, so much so that in the construction of Villa until a few years ago you could see niches depicting the Madonna with the Franciscan Friars and / or "Fraticelli "who inhabited the convent until 1650.
Still different is the story of the fraction Monastery, which lies just before the Abbot San Salvatore and from which it takes its name. In fact, the village always follows the events of the Franciscan and Benedictine Abbey before then.
