“Preise waren i.O, was mir etwas fehlte eine Strandbar direkt am See. Zwar war im Lagocamp eine Bar vorhanden doch diese wurde wenig genutzt da der Blick zum See fehlte.
    Rezeption/Personal vom Lagocamp sehr freundlich.”

It is possible to reach the lake's area by evry means of transport: the plane, and the train with its international line that touches the lake west shores (this line links Milan to Genoa, Zurich and Basel with Cisalpino, Milan to Paris with Standhal, both with stops at the main lake's railway stations).
By road, the links are inside of big European motorways: from Gottardo's tunnel (European itinerary E 35: Rome IT - Rotterdam NL), going towards the south , you reach Bellinzona and therefore the lake (from Basil it takes about two hours); the west coast of the lake is crossed by the Sempione's state road (European itinerary E 62: Milan IT - Nantes FR).

MAGIA DEL LAGO MAGGIORE
On the borders of Piedmont, Lombardy and Switzerland, the Maggiore Lake (or Verbano), is the second largest Italian lake, after Garda. It is situated close to the Alps, stretching for 65 km prevalently NNE-SSW from Magadino to Sesto Calende. Most of the lake lies in Italian territory, marking the boundary between the provinces of Novara and the VCO (Verbania-Cusio-Ossola), in Piedmont, and Varese, in Lombardy; only the most northerly end (42 sq km) belongs to Switzerland.
The Maggiore Lake has an extensive catchment basin which includes the valleys of the Ticino and Toce rivers (his principal tributaries) and the Maggia. It also receives water from: Lugano's Lake, Orta's Lake, Varese's Lake and Mergozzo's Lake. Its only distributory is the Ticino, which leaves the lake at Sesto Calende and from the left flows into the Po below Pavia.
A mild climate with an lush vegetation, excellent hotels of longstanding tradition, and many campsites, make the Maggiore Lake a favourite tourist centre. Well-known towns of international fame line its shore: Castelletto Ticino, Dormelletto, Arona, Meina, Lesa, Belgirate, Stresa, Baveno, Verbania, Ghiffa, Oggebbio, Cannero Riviera and Cannobio on the Piedmont side; Maccagno, Luino, Laveno and Angera on the Lombardy shores; Locarno, Ascona and Brissago on Swiss soil.
The considerable river traffic uses modern passenger craft and highspeed hydrofoils, while a frequet car and passenger ferry links Intra with Laveno. A wide range of sports is available: fishing for bleak, trout, perch and other fish, water skiing, sailing, powerboating, canoeing, swimming etc. The principal centres are linked by main roads and railway.

Warm summers and mild winters give these southern lakesides a gorgeously fragrant covering of azaleas, oleanders, citrus and olive trees. Exotic lush green gardens dotted with palm trees shade the water’s edge. Lake Maggiore is the principal lake, all dramatically beautiful and distinctively Italian but each has its own inbuilt originality and charm.
The crystal clear waters of Lake Maggiore are jade green to the north and a deep blue to the south. The famous Isole Borromee – a cluster of delightful small islands – boasts a barouque palace, romantic terraced gardens of rare plants, fountains, peacocks and statues all set in an amazing landscape, towered over by blue mountains. Facing these islands is the wide promenade of Stresa, busy with boat trips to all parts of the lake. For a panoramic view of the lake and mountains, take the cable car up to the 1491 m Mount Mottarone. Along the western shore, the tranquil resorts of Baveno, Pallanza and Cannobio are unspoilt, peaceful and delightfully decked with flowers. For garden lovers, the Villa Taranto is a renowned haven for azaleas, heathers, rhododendrons, camellias, dahlias and maples. While on the eastern side, from Lavena Mombello a cable-car will take you to the summit of the Sasso del Ferrro mountain, so high that the entire lake district is spread out before you - a great way to start and plan your exploration of these lakes or maybe to save until your last day here - a spectacular conclusion to a memorable holiday.

SPECIAL INTEREST HOLYDAY
Special interest holidays: great sailing and wind surfing opportunities are offered from many beaches on Lake Maggiore. Beach combing, line and net fishing for lake carp and trout is available on the lakeside. In the summer season, you can rent boats and boards by the lakeside. Maggiore is a deep lake and offers good diving conditions in clear Alpine water. Garden lovers will appreciate the fabulous gardens alongside Lake Maggiore. Those at Villa Taranto were designed in the 1930s by Scotsman Captain Neil McEacharn, who bequeathed his botanical gardens to the Italian people. They are open to the public - and the ferries stop there. Isola Bella is more than a lovely historic palace - its gardens are spectacular, set off by a pair of white peacocks. Colourful gardens please the eye along the lakeside promenades of Stresa. The grand 19th century hotels welcome you to their fine restaurants, wine bars and public areas - and to their 120-year old gardens.
