Holiday apartment in a thatched, timber-framed house on Rügen
This thatched, timber-framed house on the island of Rügen is presented under the motto “Rügen holiday – close to the Baltic Sea”. The house is halfway between the island’s capital of Bergen, the town of Putbus built in a classicist style, and the Baltic seaside town of Binz with its typical seaside architecture. It is in the historical centre of the tranquil and quiet village of Zirkow.
The holiday apartment of around 55m² is ideal for nature lovers, those seeking peace and quiet, and – depending on the season and weather – swimming or cross-country skiing enthusiasts. However, the island also has plenty to offer hiking, cycling and riding, water sports enthusiasts, railway and starry sky romanticists, lovers of literature, photography and culture, as well as other nice people.
The apartment is suitable for two people and has a cosy living room with a sofa, armchair and contemporary entertainment electronics (HD TV and CD/DVD system), as well as a bedroom with a double bed, a big wardrobe and a little library with a cosy reading corner. There is a big and original kitchen-diner with a fridge, ceramic hob, dishwasher and other standard appliances. The modern bathroom has a shower, WC and hairdryer. This apartment is self-contained and has a separate entrance.
There is a private sun terrace in the outdoor area, with stylish garden furniture. There is also a car parking space in the car port on site.
In order to highlight the original character of the old farmhouse, the apartment has been rebuilt and renovated using a variety of ecological and natural building materials and colours. It is largely furnished with solid wood furniture and provides energy-efficient appliances, lamps and entertainment electronics. Structural and design features and a string of original details, also in the outdoor area, complement this. In autumn 2013 the roof was newly thatched, according to old local traditions on the island of Ummanz. It is only about 30 minutes from the holiday accommodation to almost all the places of interest on the island by car. There are also very good bus connections and a well-developed network of cycle paths, making it easy to get around. There is plenty to see and do all around the area. This starts right on the other side of the road with the Zirkower Museumshof and continues a few steps further with the brick St. Johannis Church from the 15th century, a riding stables, the Rügenhaus and a chocolate shop with a café, as well as Karl’s leisure village. There is a quarry pond right behind the village, inviting you to take a refreshing dip, or to go waterskiing. Further afield, the beautiful Mustitzer Rotbuchenallee and the nearby forests of the Südost-Rügen biosphere reserve provide ample opportunity to go walking and hiking. The nearby Rasender Roland narrow-gauge railway will delight all railway romantics. Other attractive trip destinations are the Baltic Sea towns of Binz, Sellin, Baabe and Göhren (6-17km), with their traditional seaside architecture and extensive Baltic Sea beaches, as well as the “White Town” of Putbus (7km), with a town park and residence theatre. Lauterbach (7km) by the Greifswalder Bodden is also accessible by bicycle, as well as the most visited castle in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the Granitz hunting castle (10km), or the island’s capital Bergen (7km). The owners can put together information about these for you, as well as about other interesting trip destinations (Hiddensee & Vilm, Ralswiek, Prora, Sassnitz, Stubbenkammer, Mönchgut etc), as well as modern bicycles (deposit payable) and detailed topographical map materiel, free of charge. A sailing trip on the Greifswalder Bodden and around the island of Vilm can also be arranged.
